Read-alouds

Simple techniques that help story time land—whether you’re reading to a class, a library group, or one kiddo on the couch.

A 7-minute setup

  • Tell students the title and ask for one prediction.
  • Give a one-sentence “hook” (no spoilers).
  • Pre-teach 2–4 words (quick definitions, quick gestures).

During the read

  • Use pause points (2–4 per book) for quick questions.
  • Make one character voice distinct (not perfect).
  • Point to the illustration and ask: “What do you notice?”

Quick question types

Predict

“What do you think will happen next?”

Notice

“What do you see that makes you think that?”

Connect

“Have you ever felt like that?”

Teacher shortcut: Each book page includes a “Read‑aloud plan” section and a link to its printable guide.
